There are increasing numbers of women who decide to embark on the marvellous adventure of motherhood alone. Approximately 10% of the total number of patients who come to FivMadrid to have a baby are women who do not have a male partner. Moreover, it is estimated that between 1% and 5% of the female population is homosexual and that 30%?50% of them wish to become mothers, either on their own or together with their partners. Whatever your reasons may be which have led you to make the decision to become a mother, you are very welcome here at FivMadrid.

When you come to us at FivMadrid we will interview you and we will explain how we propose to handle your case. If all is well, which is most likely, we will prepare you for an Intrauterine Insemination (IUID) with donor semen. Current Spanish law (27/05/2006) guarantees that sperm donation is anonymous and confidential. Only in exceptional life or death circumstances for the child can the identity of the donor be revealed. We will explain all the details about the technique, the donors and the costs involved. If after 3-6 inseminations (IUID) you have not managed to achieve a pregnancy, we will suggest carrying out a hormone study and a hysterosalpinogram (HSG), to find out whether or not your fallopian tubes are permeable. The results of this study generally take between one and two months.

We are perfectly aware that you are not infertile and from the beginning we will try and apply the treatment which most approaches the natural way. However, sometimes this is not possible. For example, if you have worn an IUD, it is possible that your fallopian tubes are no longer permeable. Many of you come to FivMadrid after the age of 38 and it is commonly known that egg quality (fertilising capacity) diminishes significantly with age. Therefore, we are sometimes obliged to recommend the same treatments of assisted reproduction as an infertile couple.

In general, 80% of the women, who are younger than 35 years of age and who undergo treatment of assisted reproduction, manage to achieve a pregnancy.
