The area of research is one of the most valued and well-known facets of FivMadrid. This activity dates back further even than the Clinic itself, to 1979, when Dr Hernández began his research work at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda in the United States, at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA and, from 1993 onwards, at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid in Spain. Dr. Ricciarelli also has research experience, dating back to her scholarship from The Lalor Foundation, involving three years of research at the University of Maryland.

At FivMadrid, it is compulsory for all medical and paramedical staff to participate in research, to attend scientific conferences and to undergo continuous staff development. The result of this are the more than 200 scientific papers which have been published and presented at national and international scientific conferences.

The various lines of clinical research which we are currently developing at FivMadrid are related to the application of new drugs in the induction of ovulation (GnRH antagonists, aromatase inhibitors, recombinant gonadotropines, etc.) polycystic ovarian syndrome, improvement in the guidelines for embryonic cryopreservation, transfer of a single embryo etc. With regard to the lines of research and development in basic science, we are studying the signals which control the initial stages of embryonic development using techniques of molecular biology. All of this derives from the sole aim of obtaining information which will enable us to determine which embryo has the greatest possibilities of implanting and, in this way, be able to offer you ever greater chances of pregnancy.

It is also important to mention our teaching work (training courses on human reproduction, andrology and embryology for doctors and biologists) together with dissemination of information which the professionals at FivMadrid regularly impart. Moreover, FivMadrid works closely with the Universidad Autónoma and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid in the preparation of doctors and biologists in reproductive medicine (Medical Licensing Examination (MLE) and Masters in Reproduction).
